"The hateful rhetoric against this community that is being cultivated seemingly for cynical political purposes will only deepen their suffering and create unnecessary divisions", was spoken by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein just reflects what people are thinking/feeling around the world. Go get them, Hussein!!!

Some highly questionable things happen in the minds of some people. It is frustrating that they insist upon publicly airing those things.

I can see how the UN telling off the government will help inform the population on how to vote. :) The UN are using the same tactics in order to look powerful. Some highly questionable things may/may not happen in Indonesian gay saunas...

In the UK (but not northern ireland) gay marriage is legal. Come to get a divorce however, and gay adultery isn't seen as a reason where as straight sex would be. Gay marriage was rushed through and all the consequences weren't thought about. Still it drags on. Take your time Taiwan, and do this right.

Just copy the Aussies who put it to a public nationwide vote. Equality is more important than originality when it comes to human rights. 😂

Nothing in Stinkers is newsworthy. It might as well be North Korea, for all I care - the press and media are all state controlled and newspapers are good for only one thing : cleaning up dog poo. Truly exciting breakthroughs are happening in the free world and we should be celebrating those events instead of wasting time on rubbish.

For a place that is suppose to be worldly shame on you to have such a narrow minded view of the world and remember many LGBT people in your country ,just keep burrowing your head in the sand :( :(

Governments have no business dictating morals. A government's job is to protect the people it serves, not persecute them. The argument that non-traditional activities are harmful to the public is BS. There is no crime if there is no victim.

Someday Indonesia will wake up and join the 21st century ! So much for religion and government caring about the people and their welfare and happiness to live their life. Totally disgusting !

That’s human rights violation and it’s deplorable. I greatly despise and disgust these people and their government who use religion as a pretext to abuse, harass and prosecute someone they don’t like.

HappyWilly, this goes so much beyond LGBT rights. Indonesia is in a scary state concerning human rights (see AI's 2016/17 report quoted in my post on "Indonesian legislature moves to ban sex outside marriage"). It has been getting worse and worse as the military of the Suharto era have been creeping back to power, in a de facto alliance with hardline Muslims. And frankly, forcing transgender women to dress in male clothing and have their hair cut is bad, but much worse has been happening recently in this country.

The harassment and torture of LGBT's in Indonesia appears to be escalating at a faster and faster pace. I would hope gay rights group will up their game on confronting this outrageous actions of the Indonesian government and their minions. These are indeed dark days for our brothers and sisters in Indonesia's LGBT community.

Well not sure it was totally representative of Japan society but still favourable generally. Maybe not much different from the Canadian response. Age, education, urban, rural differences seem to be consistent with what I would expect. The views on the introduction of child into a relationship seems to accurate also. I like the question asking, "what if your child was gay." a rather human compassionate response.

Much respect for the work that these two are doing during a very difficult time. Indonesia is a wonderful country - and the people of Jogja are especially gracious (most of them). Good luck to all who are fighting for education and inclusivity there! (I had the pleasure of screening films with the Q Film Fest, and at a special Jogja screening.)

This same film had been made several times in the past. It was more relevant then in the UK. Maybe it serves a purpose elsewhere in the world but hasn't the moral argument been largely won everywhere? Bullying is bullying whatever the cause. This film actually makes it look ok as it stimulated success!
